Dr Katharina Hendrickx
Hi there, I’m Katharina, a research associate and associate tutor at the University of Sussex interested in the Gothic, crime fiction, audience and reception studies, representations of violence in fiction and genre studies.
Currently, I am teaching media and film at the University of Sussex with a focus on genre cinema and fiction as well as Global media systems and film. I have also taught German language and culture at Bournemouth University as well as English literature in local schools in Sussex and Kent. My PhD entitled ‘Domestic Noir: Reading Contemporary Women’s Genre Fiction’ has focused on audience engagement with genre fiction, specifically the crime fiction subgenre of domestic noir. You can read more about my thesis here. I have published some of my work in Clues, Excursions and The Journal of Gender Studies. I’m currently working on my first monograph based on my doctoral research as well as an edited collection on the legacy of Daphne du Maurier’s work. I’m an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA).
